Raptor Frame question... is mine bent?
#1
I picked up a frame to replace the one that got trashed in my Dad's bike, and the new-used frame looks good except for one thing.
It appears that at some point, the rider hit a good sized rock or stump, and it put a dent in the bottom side of the tube underneath the pivot mount for the rear swing arm.
If I look down through the frame, the shock mount flanges all look straight. When I look at the lower tube from behind the frame, it appears to slightly curve up in the middle where the shock or shock pivot mount. It is a bit of an optical illusion when you look at it, because the bottom of the tube is dented a bit, so it is hard to tell if this tube normally curves up in the middle, or if it was a result of hitting something.
All of the other holes around this point appear to line up, but I am getting it powder coated this weekend, so I want to make sure it is ok before I spend the extra money.
Can any of your Raptor owners tell me if the lower rear frame tube, about 1" diameter, curves up slightly around the lower shock mount/pivot point?
The guy I got this from said that he would totally take care of me if there were any problems, so I just want to make sure.
Thanks for any help you can offer,
Dean

vdubn,
When looking at my frames rear tube from the front it is straight across. When looking at it sideways underneath the foot pegs it appears to be an optical illusion that its not straight because of the drain holes that are dented in. To me it gives the appearance that it very slightly up in the middle going towards the rear mount for the linkage.

Yea, that is almost exactly what mine looke like, except that whatever the guy hit, dented the tube a bit, so it looks even worse.
I guess as long as everything still lines up, it should be ok, right?
Thanks,
Dean

Bummer, hopefully it'll be ok. If mine is bent, it is very slight. I put a straightedge across it before I took it to the powder coater, and except for the dent, it looked almost perfect. I guess we'll see.
Thanks,
Dean
