Blaster Oil
I think the gasket on the left side cover is blown, because it looks like that's where some oil is coming from.
What is behind the cover on the left side? Any idea on how much a gasket will be? |
Blaster Oil
A gasket is $8 from Yamaha
Behind that cover is he clutch assy. And a few other things. When removing the cover you must first remove the oil lines for the injector, and remove the kick starter pedal, and then you can undo the screws for the cover and pull it off. Make sure you lightly tap on the kick start shaft with a piece of wood or rubber hammer as you pull the cover out so you don't pull the shaft out with the cover (no big deal if you do but it can be a bugger to get the big spring back on and in place) Clean the gasket surface good to get rid of any old gasket or oil, clean the sight glass, inspect the injector drive gear, flush out the tranny if dirty, put the new gasket on and put the cover back on and torque down the screws. Don't forget to bleed the oil injector pump after you put the oil lines back on. put a dab of blue lock tight on the kick starter nut before you put it on to. |

Well, my bike isn't oil injected so I don't have to worry about any of that. And 2) it's the cover on the left side that looks like is the one that's leaking. |
Blaster Oil
So you removed the injection system ?
BTW if you have a blown left side gasket inside the stator cover you have a blow main seal. If the leak is not from inside the stator cover, but from behind it then you have a blow counter shaft seal or shift shaft seal. Most likely you blew the countershaft seal because you over filled the tranny. Remove the chain and front sprocket screw a small screw into the old seal and pull it out grease up a new seal and put in on and tap it in with a rubber hammer until it is flush with the case. |

So should I even bother buying the gasket or just buy a countershaft seal for it?
Questions now, 1) How much is a seal? like 5 bucks I hope? 2) I should be able to get one at a loca ATV/Dirtbike shop correct? |

RYAN,
go to the doctor and swipe some of those really long qtips they have! or get some outta the bathroom at home. and clean the sight glass, down by the kickstarter. 650cc is not much, ya need to convert that unless you have a ratio rite cup, that works. and there's a mark on the side of the sight glass for level. if you are mixing fuel and oil, you should be using a ratio-rite. if ya have one, just measure 650cc into it, grab a tranny funnel [a really long skinny one ] and yer on. if you dont know how much it is or dont have a cup, go to yer start program in the comfuser and the encyclo will give ya ratios. better to just buy the damn cup, it's under $5 everywhere! then just do the cleanup. i dont know about weight, you being in nice, warm florida. it dammed cold oregon we use 10w30 this half the year...... have fun dude! |

Well then can I just use the 4-S Yamaha oil? or is that only for mixing in the tank?
I don't know if I should buy the gasket on the left cover, or the seal inside. I am going to Croom this weekend so I want to get it right before I go. |

I use Yamalube 4 SAE 20W-40 Non-Friction Modified. I use 24oz. in the tranny. How does anybody recommend this?

I run Maxima 80wt tranny oil in the blaster. Makes the clutch work real nice. If you overfilled it that vent hose will spray oil every where.
Hardleydangerous - correct amount to refill is 650ml not 560. I use a measureing cup to measure it out then pour it in. Later |
