Default Blaster Oil

I put some 10W30 in the side of the motor the other day, just because I have had the bike a year and it's never been filled.

I think I may have put way too much in, there is a hose running from the motor all the way under the gas tank and down, and now it's dripping oil when I ride the bike around, it's spraying down and getting all over the pipe and motor, but I can't tell if it's leaking anywhere else.

Is this normal for it to overflow like that when the bike gets hot?

How often should I put oil in the gear case like that...

Hmm i dunno about that leak ,it doesnt sound good...the only hose i can think would be the tubes coming out of the carb and they leak gas out sometimes but that is a normal thing...i change my oil about every 10 hours!

This isn't gas leaking, it's oil. this hose goes from the top of the motor along the frame and up to the front plastics right by the pipe, it's a crank case ventalation hose it looks like.

I believe I just put in too much oil.

You should drain the oil and put in 650 cc of oil ,which is whats supposed to be in there

Don't Blasters have a sight glass on them for the oil level on the kick starter side?

Ya, it's really hard to see anything down there.

I am gonna buy the YamaLube 10W30 tommorow.

Two more questions

1) How full should it be?

2) The black cover on the left side of the bike, that says Yamaha on it, what is behind that? it looks like a gasket on there, but it kind of looks like it's leaking from there, it may just be spilling/spraying down onto it at speed.

Thanks guys

BlasterHD,

Peltrax is correct I am sure on the oil, 650 cc of oil.

I know my KDX 200 capacity is 700mL when the engine is completely dry or 650mL when just changing the oil.

It also calls for SAE 10W30 or 10W40 motor oil.

Chet

you rode it for a year with out changing the oil ! are you nuts?

If it is over filled it will blow out the transmission vent tube... but it can also blow other seals and gaskets out as well.

if you ride you blaster often ...change it at least once a month.
drain it by removing the drain bolt on the bottom of the engine. The tranny holds 650ml of oil (10-40 motor oil will work fine)
If you can not see the opil level thru the sight glass behine the kick starter, buy a new clutch cover gasket, remover the cover and clean the sight glass and flush out the tranny while your at it with kerosene or varsol. Put the new gasket on, put the cover on and fill it with 650ml of oil. you will now be able to see the oil level.
