considering the wolverine.

I was wondering what the owners of a wolverine thought about them? I am tired of this utility quad stuff, but still want something I can haul my tent and sleeping bag on. I looked at a wolverine the other day and I really like the way they look. No one I know has one thought so I have no idea how they run. What do you guys think about them?

I own a 95 Wolverine and the main times that I appreciate it more than a 92 Honda 300 4x4 that I ride sometimes is when ground clearance and jumping are an issue. I just don't feel that the Wolverine has a real sporty feel but it is suffice. It still feels rather large on the trails. The Stock Wolverine will have a slightly better mid range and top end than your Honda 300 based on my experiences. It is very well suited to satisfy the folks who want the best of both worlds, and it is a great choice of those like myself that have to have shaft drive and auto clutch, but if you want sport and you don't mind a manual clutch, chain, and no 4x4 then the Warrior with a back rack or something in that category would be more up your alley.

I just bought a 2000 wolverine a couple of weeks ago, and I love it. Granted it is my 1st atv and I don't have much experience on others but I know I picked the right atv for me.
btw: I'm 6'3" 220lbs.
I was considering Magnum 500, Grizzly, kodiak.
I will use my quad for light utility work, but mostly for play so the wolverine suits me perfectly.

Eli,
I have owned both the Honda's you have and now have a Wolverine. The best way to give you an idea of the Wolverine is comparing the difference between the Honda 350 and 300. The Wolverine has power similar to the 350 Honda. It handles better than the 300 by the difference between the 300 and 350 Honda's.
The Wolverine is not the best machine for ANY one type of riding. However, you will always have fun riding it. From crashing trails through the woods, mud holes or fast trail riding you will never be at the back of pack. It's not perfect but after three years of riding it I wouldn't buy anything else. Well maybe if Honda made a light 4x4 with long suspension.

You won't be sorry if you buy the Wolverine. I bought an '01 model about 6 months ago and absolutely love it. You will see a lot of posts stating problems with the Wolverine but you have to consider the degree of abuse. I'm 6'6" and 235 pounds and ride pretty hard, and have so far had 0 problems with mine. Any ATV requires a lot of maintenance if you ride in heavy mud and water. They also have plenty of power. I was riding with a buddy one weekend who has a blaster and he broke down about 3 miles from camp. I pulled him all the way back through heavy mud and up very steep hills without any problem. Each ATV probably had 30 lbs of mud on them plus rider.
BTW, mine is still stock.

I don't know of anyone that has bad things to say about their Wolverine. I use my 99 Wolverine at work all summer long. Before I bought my own quad I used the companies Honda TRX300 or 400 Forman. The Wolverine is is WAY better. It'll go anywhere they can, is alot more comfortable, faster, lighter and more fun when the speeds pick up or when you're not trailering.
In the fall I use the bike for play, and i don't think you could find a better 4x4 playbike. There are a lot of gravel and sand pits where I live and the bike will climb hill that I couldn't even think about with a 300 Honda.
Trust me, if you buy a Wolverine you won't regret it.

I agree with everyone here. I've ridden atv's all my life and had utility and sport. The Wolverine has the best of both worlds. My father owns a 98 300 Honda and its a fine machine but my Wolverine is far superior for aggressive riding like I like to do. My buddy bought a 01 Banshee and now has it for sale because ever since we started having snow, he's had lots of problems getting the jetting right and had to stud the rear tires cause he was all over the place on the trails. He's looking for a Wolverine once he sells it because he likes the sporty 4by and he'll get more use out of his machine for chores around his new home.. We went riding lots in the fall and I never trailed far behind in the trails, only the straight stretches. Let me tell you that he wished he had 4wheel drive for some of the mud and snow we've been through..
