Default 2003 raptor vs. 250r

I use to own a 250r before I bought my raptor. If mx racing is your number one concern then it is the 250r hands down. The raptor is not a mx quad unless you put a lot of money into the suspension, a-arms
,axle, etc. In my opinion, the 250r will still be a better mx quad. The raptor's center-of-gravity is too high and it is too heavy. On the trails, fireroads, dragracing, etc. I will take the raptor. Stock for stock the raptor is faster. If you mod both of them the raptor is still faster. I know the bigbore 250r kits are fast, but the bigbore raptors are faster. I sold my 250r to get the raptor, because of the reverse and eletric start.
You can mod the 250r for cheaper, because it is a two-stroke. Unless you plan to mod the raptor go w/ the 250r. Find out what type of mods the 250 has before you buy it. You do not want a single purpose bike unless thats all you plan to do w/ it.

There is alot of things you have to look into when buying a 250R. They are old, and usually not owned by their origional owners. So there is really no way to tell how bad it has been beaten on. Do a search on this forum, and im sure u will find a list of things to check before buying. Beware for cracked frame!!!

If you are riding very tight trails, the 250r's width might bite ya. But, its handling charateristics in the woods makes it awesome.

Hey guys, I got a new way to check for frame cracks. Take off the elctronics and attach a tesla coil to it then turn out the lights. You would see the cracks glowing. Would take one heck of a tesla coil though. I got one but I dont want to know if my frame is cracked. Ill weld it when it breaks.

How much do you weigh? i have my raptor set-up for track . i'm 185lbs without gear and after a good dump. i know i use my weight alot for correcting jumps. not to mention hauling out of corners...they wheelie easy when applying a fist full of throttle. i've got as much into it as i paid for it stock. you do limit yourself to open class if your into racing with the Raptor...so you may want to consider that.

250R...your going to need to put money into it...no doubt...providing she fires up and the frame isn't cracked that may be your machine. mods are cheaper...and you may enjoy the ride more. if your coming off a 300ex definately the 250r.

in fact, why not a z400 or kfx400...or possibly the new YZ450 Dirt Wheels hinted around to (Dec pg 10). they say maybe mid 2003. right above that is another article talking about Honda testing a liquid cooled 450 @ their "top-secret facility in the California desert".

hmmm. want to buy my Raptor?

Littleman,
I have owned a banshee then a 250r (modded), a modded 440ex, then my raptor. I would recommend the 250r if all you do is MX. If you plan on riding trails, dunes, dragging, or playriding definatly go with the raptor. The raptor is less maintence and it is new! I wouldnt take my chances on a old 88R unless I absolutly checked the whole thing over with a fine tooth comb. Good luck on your decision.
