How much are Kodiak 400's going for around you guys? For those who just bought one, how much did you pay OTD? Any likes or dislikes about the quad?
Thanks for your help.

I bought one for my wife last week and she loves it. She previously rode a Honda Recon. Improvements over her Recon was; better suspension (more travel and adjustable), faster, less engine vibration, floor boards, 4 wheel drive... She wasn't sure at first if she would like a full automatic transmission but within 5 miles she said she will never miss shifting. We paid $4999 base price, $75 freight, $75 setup, plus PA. sales tax. Her Kodiak is camo, the dealer is selling the solid colors for $4699. The only problem I can see is that I may not be able to keep up with her on my Honda 300 4trax Hmmm.... Yamaha does make the Kodiak in a 450

My buddy has the Kodiak 450, even though it may have a little more power overall, it isn't any faster than my 400. So, I wouldn't pay the extra cash for the 450 based on speed alone, they are basically identicle in that category. Now, if you want the front locking differential and the low range then go for it. The 400 is (401cc), the 450 is (421cc). I bought the 400 because I didn't have a need for the low range and I can always throw a detroit gearless locker in the front if I find I need it down the road. Either way they are both great bikes, you won't be dissappointed, it just depends on what features you need.

That locker wont do you any good when you cant turn the tires in mud in high range. I know, I cant turn my Mudbugs in high range in deep mud. It has no problem in low. I can say, if I was sure I wouldnt mount larger than 25" tires I would be satisfied with the 400 Kodiak without low range and locker.

My 2003 Kodiak 450 manual shows the following:
Secondary reduction system____39/24 x 24/18 x 33/9 (7.944)
Reverse gear________________29/17 (1.706)
Sub transmission ration - Low___45/16 (2.813)
Sub transmission ration - High___38/23 (1.652)
I do not have any 400 information.
In addition to the locker and digital display also note that the 450 has a rear disk brake were the 2003 400 has a rear drum brake and compression ratios are slighty different. Sizes and capacities seem the same.
At 2003 Kodiak 450 4x4 Specifications the specification page for the 2003 Kodiak 450 4x4 you can compare to another unit (Grizzley, 2002 or 2003 Kodiak 400) to see differences at a high level. Ratios are not shown.
