Did anyone read this?

Popular mechanics did an article on 4 stroke Dirtbike engines and how they finally have the power of a 2 stroke.Any way the reason I posted this is b/c they said recreational 2 strokes would be banned by 2010,2006 in someplaces.I sure will miss the ringa ding ding of a two stroke getting on the pipe, not to mention that smell while at the lake.Later

yeah, they have the power of a stock 2 stroke, but add any number of mods and watch the four stroke eat it. 2 strokers just make a lot more bang for your aftermarket buck.
from what i understand, the original date for banning of the 2 strokes was 2006. this included chainsaws, weed whips, any garden tool or implement, and pretty much everything else. this date has since been put into question. much like the long delay we are experiencing with the govt. reg. that said all major us car companies had to sell hybrid cars in or by 2004. unless direct injection technology makes it over here from japan, we will lose all of our new 2 strokes in the next decade. older ones will have to pass emissions tests much like cars in california.
gas gas is supposedly releasing some kind of new tech in thier Wild HP300 2 stoke that comes out next year or so. if that technology works it may create a trend in the other major quad companies and we could see the rebirth of the trx250r, lt250r, and maybe a new shee and blaster.
only time will tell...

Pretty much just make it fuel injected and all your problems go away. A turbo would solve a lot of problems too. You could use a computer controled blow off valve and rid yourself of a tuned pipe while at the same time lowering emissions. Problem is turbos are too darn expensive. What I forsee DFI (which I dont like because theres not enough time for atomization) and power heads like on boats. It wont feel the same with those changes though, would be one long bad **** powerband all the way through like a boat engine. Technically shouldnt a 2 stroke be able to be just as clean as a 4 stroke or maybe better since it is more efficent and if you got their emmissions the same it would make more power per mass thus being able to burn less fuel to do the same job?
