Default This isn't normal, right?

One of my riding budyy's has a problem with his '00 Kodiak. If he shifts from 4X4 to 2X4 he can hear the system working and the 4X4 warning light turns off. But then if he tries to drive away with his quad, he hears a loud BANG. After the BANG the Kodiak is just in 2X4 and everything works, but he is afraid that he damages something. Is he damaging something? Is there a way to solve the problem? We really need an answer before friday, because we planned a trip on friday.
Thanks in advance.

it sounds like the 4x4 acuator is not disengaging all the way until he moves . i do not know about the 4x4 quads but i have worked on trucks that have done the same thing and thats what was wrong . sorry i cant help with tech stuff on it but i would look at the 4x4 shifting area . hope it gives you a plce to start .

You may need to check and make sure that the tire have the same height and pressure. If the fronts are shorter than the back it will put a bind on the drivetrain because the rear wheels are pushing the front. Make sure the tires are the same height etc.

We replaced his rear wheels and made sure all his tires had the same pressure and height. He gently drives it forward and we hear a ratling sound! Not a BANG, but a ratling sound! What could this be? Any input would be great, because my buddy is really worried about this.
Thanks in advance.
