25,26, or 27 inch 589's for the Grizz 660?

Ok, I need some good, solid, honest advice about which size 589 I should put on my Grizzly 660. So I would really like to hear from you Grizzly 660 owners that have them on their machines.

First off, whatever size I put on has to fit with out any kind of lift kit, and with out any chance of rubbing.

Second, I don't want to loose much if any power. I'm not to concerned about top speed, but I want plenty of power for pulling hills in high range if I want, and I still want to feel that acceleration rush of the stock machine. All the ground clearance in the world will be useless if you can't easily get up the hills. Also, will the 589's power slide with the Grizzly 660 in two-wheel drive?

I was planning on just installing the stock size 25 inch 589, but I noticed that most of the package deals come with 26 or 27-inch tires. I don't really ride in mud, but I want an aggressive tire for loose dirt, and a tough tire to hold up in the rocks. How do the 589's do in the rocks? Extra ground clearance of the bigger tire would be nice in the rock gardens, but not at the expense of power and added strain and stress on my driveline. I want durability out of my quad and all of its noticeable power. I don't want to install the bigger tire, only to have my 660 feel like a smaller less powerful machine.

I also am not crazy about the fact that the bigger size tire will effect the accuracy of my speedometer and odometer, although I know that the Grizzly's speedometer reads a little on the fast side, so I wonder if maybe the 26 inch 589 tires would make the speedometer read a little closer to reality than the stock 25 inch Dunlop’s.

Finally, how do the height of the 589's compare to the height of the stock Dunlop’s? Are the 25 inch 589's really 25 inch's or are they a little shorter/taller? Same for the 26 and 27's? Also, what kind of rim protection do they provide for the C-Series rims?

Thanks for your patience in reading through this long post and for all your input from the experience with 589’s on your Grizzly. I’m looking forward to your detailed replies.

25,26, or 27 inch 589's for the Grizz 660?
area 51, heres the skinny on the 589 mt tires. i have 26 inch, and if you get the itp rims with the offset, they will rub on whoops, and can crack your plastic. also, with every size up on tires, the more off the line power you WILL loose. i lost alot with my 26 inch titans and the itp rims.
i am now going to install my stock tires on the itp rims, and the titans on my stock rims. if i had to do it over again, i would go with 25 inch titans, on stock rims. then put the stock rubber on the itp rims. the itp are great for the stability of the quad on wide open trails, or dry conditions, and the titans are surly for mud. so, no need for a huge offset when puoncing through the mud, due to slower speeds.
my brother has 27 inch tires, and has lost tons of off the line power. he doesn't mind, couse he loves the grip and ability to mud with them. i dont like loosing power, so i added stuff to make up the differance.
the 26 in titans were about 2 1/2 in taller than my stockers. i have pics of the differance in my photo album you can see. if i were to do it again, i would stay with 25 inch.
good luck, and i hope i helped.

25,26, or 27 inch 589's for the Grizz 660?

Thanks mich660griz! I guess I will stay with the 25 inch, those 26 inch'ers are huge!!! I can see why you lost some power. Looking at the 26" tires makes me worry about how much bigger the 25" tires will be. I bet they are a good bit bigger than the stock tires as well. I haven't measured the stockers to see how tall they are on the quad. I also don't know what to do about the rims. Do you think that they would rub with C-Series and 25" 589's? I like the look of the C-Series, but I wish they didn't widen the Grizz out so much. It's not a sport quad, I like it narrow for tight spots, it handles fine for me. I'm old school, grew up with three-wheelers, so I'm used to moving around on a machine. The narrowest quad is still more stable than a three-wheeler. Anyway, I wish I could see some pics of a Grizz with 25" 589's on C-Series, to see how they fit and if they will rub. My stock rims are black, since it is a limited edition, and the rolled edge of the rims keeps getting scrapped up in the rocks. So now they are black and silver. I think I would prefer the silver since if they get scrapped up in the rocks, it isn't that noticeable. Although I think the 589 will protect the rims better than the stockers. But I bet that those rolled edges on the stock rims will still stick out like a sore thumb. Thanks again for the info, it did help!

25,26, or 27 inch 589's for the Grizz 660?
aria 51,
if i were betting, i would guess the titans are about 1 inch taller with equal sizes, (25 inch to 25 inch) my stockers are about 24 inch actual. also, i would guess that the itp rims would also make the 25 inch rubb in severe conditions. see, the rim pushs the rubber out about 2 1/2 inch on each side, therefore, the rubber is over the lip of the fender. this makes you loose alot of wheelwell, and if you bottom out the suspencion rale hard, or jump it alot, it might just hit a little. i would be willing to bet it will. they make stock rims that are strong, and look good. i like the stock rims with titans due to the rim guard, and the lightness of the stock rims. you wont loose much off the line with 25 inch tires, on stock rims. i would consitter getting the itp rims, but for the stock rubber. great offset, and alot more stable on the wide open trails.
hope i helped, and good luck!!!

25,26, or 27 inch 589's for the Grizz 660?
Thanks for all the help mich660griz. I am going to go with the 25 inch 589's. I will have to think about the rims. I wonder if the rim guard on the 589's are deep enough to protect the rolled edge of the stock rims? Also, I wonder if the ITP 589's have the same rim guard as the Titans? I probably won't be jumping my Grizz, so maybe the 589's on C-Series rims wouldn't rub on mine. Is jumping the only time that you think the 25-inch tire would rub? Thanks for everything.

Im running 27" Titan 589M/T's on the stock wheels. The beadguards cover the rim very nicely. I have no problems with them. They still remain tucked under the fenders. I do not do any superman jumping so I havent had any scrubbing problems. Yeah, I did loose a lil on top end, but who gives a rats (bleep). The Grizz has plenty. But all and all, I'm very satisfied with their ride. Cant say much about longevity yet...I have only had them a few months.

NC660Mudder thanks for the info. Do you have any pic's of your Grizz with the 27-inch tires on the stock rims that I could see? I sure would love to see it. I would also like to see a close up of the rim guard and the stock rim to see just how well the rim guard on the 589 blocks those big rolled edges of the stock rims. Does anyone know how much the stock rims cost? If the rim guards on the 589's really protect the rims I would consider buying a couple of new black stock rims to replace mine since they have been beaten up in the rocks because the stock Dunlop’s don't offer any protection to the rolled edge of the stock rim. Thanks for any info, and let me know if you have any pictures, I will give you my e-mail address.
