I looked at the pins REAL good and they appeared to be the same. Mine is cranking fine and the weights hold the pin in at high rpms. I tested operation and looked real good and the pin withdraws fine when actuated by the weights.
I dont think I have a problem there. I will call Hotcams today though. thanks! Did you use the .08 and .010 valve lash? I currently have .006 and .008. To me .008 and .010 will be real noisy. Does it make more power looser or just noise and left cam lift?
Thanks

Dont use the old pin. I dont care if it is running fine or not..it WILL chew the pin up sooner or later.

Yes, do call Hotcams today. In the meantime, do not ride your quad. I was reimbursed for my damages, I'll just about guarantee you will not be as they sent you the new pin and you chose not to use it.

Look at the base of the pins. The Hotcam one is way thicker than the stock pin. It is due to the seat depth of the Hotcam you have. With the hole sizes for the oil holes in the cam, oil pressure builds up and will push the pin out under excelleration. The pin will stick out far enough due to the lack of depth on the seat of the cam. The new pin makes up this difference and will not allow it to stick out far enough to be damaged.

Tony at Hotcams will explain this better than I can but, Why did they send you a new pin? It has nothing to do with the machine cranking over fine, or the weights holding it in under load. The weights only let the pin rest in the groove of the lever. The oil pressure will push the pin out if you don't use the new pin.

A bent valve was what my machine recieved from this. Pieces of the pin floating around in my motor?? You don't want any of that do you? I can't believe people not following the instructions that come with the product. Well, at least your one less person Hotcams will have to reimburse for damages.

As for lash, when my quad comes back from the quad doctor I will use the .008 .010 that Hotcams reccomends. I'd talk to them about that to if I were you.

P.S. When I installed my Hotcam it was noisy to. I wonder if it were the pin making the extra noise and not the valves. My first hard excelleration after breakin was the last until I replaced my left exhaust valve. JFYI

I DIDNT SEE THE PIN TILL I WAS DONE,I WAS TAKING WHAT YOU SAID SERIOUSLY, Why do you think I made the post? I had seen in a earlier post where someone said the earlier camshafts had problems with the pin fitting. Mine fitted fine so I assumed the pin was for ones that didnt fit and work fine. Now I know better. I read ALL of there warnings in the box and NONE said use our new pin that is hidden in the box with stickers! I called them and they said theirs was hardened and stronger so I will replace it. My engine isnt noisy. I said with .010 and .008 valve lash the engine will be noisy and will wear parts! SO I didnt set mine on .008 and .010. Thats too much lash in my opinion. I build motors too, this is just the first Raptor one Ive gone into. NOW that I know about the hardened issue, I AM CHANGING IT.
Like I said, I appreciated and listened to everything you said but go back and read your reply. Kind of condensending huh? No hard feelings here. You probably thought I wasnt taking you serious, I was. I just had to do some more research.

Is anyone using a advance key in conjunction with their cam? Better or worse performance? I will have to try but wanted to see if any of you have.
Thanks

Hmm, I was being a bit sarcastic to get you to listen to what you were being told. Hopefuly it saves your motor. My new Hotcam that I was sent said on the plastic bag, somthing to the affect, "please use this pin, do not use stock pin" on a red label attatched to the plastic bag. Mine is at the quad doctor having the tranny replaced with the 02 conversion and they are installing the cam and a 11-1 piston while they are at it, otherwise, I'd read out exactly what it says.

Sarcastic or not, my job here is done, except it for what is was (saving your motor) or don't. (oh, 41 here)

Sorry you took it the wrong way.

Like I said, you need to lose the SARCASM, Im on YOUR SIDE. I bought a cam, sometimes with any product, you get extra stuff for extra applications. I just missed it. I installed the old one and it fit, so I thought it was ok. Im not perfect,NEVER SAID I WAS.
Thanks for trying to help.

I went and open up a few boxes of hot cams that i have in the garage. Everyone of them has a pin in a plastic bag with a note on red paper saying to use this pin instead of the factory one.

Shockwave- wshrdskn is just trying to save you a little grief. Your motor is a time bomb waiting to explode. he knows a little about this subject as i believe his was the first cam out of that batch(i sold it to him) before it was all said and done i had sold numerous hot cams before Wshrdk find a problem. Afterthat i saw 4 more do the same thing.

I am 39 so i am just a pup to you old gezzers on here
