I'm absolutley tired of this 56k modem and need something new. Do I get cable or DSL? I know I can get cable and if I fight real hard I might be able to get DSL in a month. Which is better? How much better is the one over the other?

Thanks

Dsl if you can get it. Both are better than dialup, factor in price and availability.

For me to get DSL I am going to have to wait a month or so trying to talk them into running it over here. I should be able to get them too but I might not. Both are about the same price. Why is DSL better, just faster or is it something else? Thanks for the help BTW.

Ward660R,

I was the second person in our area to try DSL by SBC and it was a failure for me. When it worked it was really good but it kept on freezing and stalling, loosing connection. Why pay almost twice as much when AOL was as good as DSL. SBC finally took it out with no charge after calling them every day about the problems I was having.

We are getting high speed cable here in the near future so from what the locals tell me is they love there high speed cable modems.

I can't wait.

Chet

Hey what do you think of my icon? Anyway personally i prefer the DSL to cable because of price here in Atlanta and with DSL you don't share the hi-speed line with the guy across the street, security, whos offering what where you live?

I do like the icon.

Just another thaught do you have to buy anything special to use cable or DSL, or would it normally come with it? Yes as you have figured out I am computer illiterate.

Comcast is the cable company for me, and Megate is doing the DSL.

Its ashame you don't have an 01 raptor there to jack up so you can work on its trannie.

Even though you are on a phone line with DSL you still get on the network at some point during the loop.

DSL is not any more secure than cable.

Ward,

Drop me a line if you want to, I work for Telepak Internet (same company that owns Cellular South ) if you want to look at DSL. what kind of deal does megate have going on?
I wasn't very impressed with the comcast cable system ( i know people using in Hattiesburg, downloading was around 50-60 (with Kazaa) , and seemed to be directly proportional to how busy the system was )
I really like the DSL tho, is megate reselling through BellSouth? This isn't a hopeless plug for my company (ok maybe a lil ) Lemme know if ya got any ?s

Thanks Razor, Mega gate is through Cellular South, so I guess its actualy Telepak. They don't have the lines for it here but I am close to the boundry. They said at first that if there was enough intrest that they would do it.

downloading at 50-60, does that mean connection speed of 50-60K or the speed of down load was 50-60? I hope its the last one I only down load now at 5, at the best time but its normaly 2.3
