Newbie needs some help

Hello Y'All,
I just started racing this past year - I did a couple GNCCs. In '03 I'm gonna try to hit most of them. I just just need some expert help with a couple questions.
1) Is there any way to make faded, scratched black plastic to look all new and shiny again? Someone suggested wet-sanding with autobody sandpaper, then polishing it with car polish. Any ideas?
2) I can't figure out the jetting. I have a stock engine, full Yosh pipe, Pro-Flow foam filter, no lid, and an Outerwears airbox cover. I tried 150/155 mikuni jets with the pilots and needles stock. This gives great low and mid power, but NO top end. I've tried all the way up to 170/175 jets. If I leave the needles in the stock spot it bogs on the low end - or if lower the needle it runs ok but is lean and really hot (glowing headpipe in the dark). Any thoughts? Maybe increase pilots?
Thanks for the help!!

I think somone said a strong blow dryer or heat gun can semi melt ur plastic and kinda make the stretch marks fade. Scratches.... dunno, fadedness, spray something oily on there, pine sol or something it will fill the pores and make it look darker and some people claim it makes dirt fall off easy when your cleaning.

I raced the "first-year racer" class at the Ironman GNCC in Indiana. I finished about mid-pack even though I had an electrical problem most of the race. I am going to race the 4-stroke novice class next year.

hey chad, just tried it and it came up fine.your site isn't working either. i guess these free sites are basically worthless... ran 4 stroke novice last year at steel creek. 52 in my class. they always have a lot of riders in that class. look at the results from last year. they sometimes have double rows.

When i purchased my raptor it had fmf exhaust stock air box, 22.5 idle jets and 142, 146 main jets, and not stock needle jets. The main jets were marked stock on them. I purchased a jet kit just to make sure i had everything to correct my problem. The needle jets in the kit i bought were the same, so they were not the stock yamaha needles in my carbs. Next i checked the plug color very light gray (not enough fuel) raised the needle to the highest point. plug color changed to a medium gray and ran better. Know this worked for me I live at about 10 feet above sea level. The higher up in sea level you live things change. best of luck.

I would suggest that you try this:
Mikuni jet 150 (left) Air/fuel screw 2-1/2 turns out
Mikuni jet 155 (right) Air/fuel screw 2-3/4 turns out
Move the clips on your stock needles to the 4th. position on both carbs.
This should be REAL close. If it isn't right on, it will be close enough to get a good plug read. (use a new plug when your ready to check it).
Your Stock 22.5 pilots should be fine. I didn't have to go to 25's until I had my Trinity work done.
Good Luck.
