1st service cost?

I'm taking my wolverine in for it's 1st service, which the dealer says includes:
changing oil
changing oil in differential
valve adjustment
overall check-up on the machine
My dealer said it would be $144.00. Does this sound reasonable?

Yeh that sounds about right.....Every dealer uses the first check up thing as a strong point when selling you the bike....
But when you bring it back in they always charge a few hours labor and the normal 200% mark-up on the oil and filter.
It's not right....But it's life...
I know it's hard for a first time buyer to not get sucked in by the warranty and service stuff.
But after a few
years with many different bikes and purchases...I have learned how to maintain myself for alot less money.
The only things they are going to do for your wheeler on the first check...is Oil, zerks, and filter. (all the stuff in the checklist of your manual.) Sometimes you can talk them into checking or adjusting your valves(four stroke), but that is usually a second charge also.
I have a good freind that works for one of the largest dealers in my area...and his hours are monitored pretty closely by his boss...He is a mechaninc and a good one too....and he tells me that the first time check up is usually blown off by the mechanics...meaning things like the valves are often checked by ear...do you get my drift?
Do what feels right!!

I took my Wolv. in and it cost me about $80 or $90 for everything. My uncle took his Grizzly to a different dealer for his service and it cost him $44.00 for 1st service. I bought my Wolv. in a different Sate so I took it back to them for service. So that sounds a little bit high.

Why do you guys put up with dealers charging you for the first service. If the dealers to cheap to give you a free oil change after you pay thousands of dollars with them,go find another dealer that will. The dealer uses oil and filters that they buy in bulk. It costs them little or nothing to do a first service on the bike. Its just good customer service.

That sounds about right. My first service for a Rancher is $110 + tax + oil + filter = $145
Everyone tells me the first service is the most important. The tech is supposed to look at the valves & adjust them also.......

Holy $***! Thats a freakin rip off! Dont let the dealer tell you that you have to go to him for the first check up. If you choose to though, change the oils and filter yourself to save money. Then all they have to do is adjust the valves, and adjust the cables. I did the oil thing myself, and my dealer did the valves and cables and charged me $35.00 I learned how to do it myself, and now dont use the dealer at all for service as you can see by my list of mods.

My 1,st service was $165 ,,,*******s.
But my mechanic persuaded me to let the dealer do it because it was under warranty. And if any thing happens it's on them.
Two weeks later the motor blew a main cage bearing and took half the motor with it. To the tune of $1968 and covered by warranty in full with no questions.
Just food for thought.
