Raptor with 2 neutrals
#1
My brother-in-law just lost second gear on his '01 Raptor. He was riding and shifted in to 2nd and it wasn't there just revs like it's in neutral. I have read a lot of posts of people having tons of trouble with the trannies on 01 Raptors. Does anyone know what might be the cause? Any replys would be appreciated. Thanks Shawn

Yes, your 4th gear wheel dogs broke off. It engages 2nd gear, thats why you have no 2nd gear. Welcome to the club. Go to www.raptortranny.com and you will be able to see whats required to fix it. Read through the introduction section and you can see a picture of my 4th gear wheel and you'll see why yours has no second gear.

Thats exactly what I did RaptorJay, I've had it this way for a few weeks now and love the new found power of my 01 with 02 gears.

Park it, go to raptortranny.com and fix yourself. The instructions are great. I'm in the middle of doing one myself. Not that bad. And plus like raptorjay said and great excuse to add some goodies in it.
Mike is doing a great job on the raptortranny.com website. Take advantage of it. Don't give the dealers
anymore money. JMO

Hey thanks guys. I've been to Raptortranny.com and it doesn't look to hard to do. Yeah my buddy's tranny completely locked up on him about six months ago and it cost him 900.00 to get back on the dunes. My brother-in-law was just hoping that it wouldn't happen to him but it did. Thanks again.

Yeah its not too hard to do at all. You just need some space, a workbench, and a little organizational skills. I havent had to use any special tools yet besides air tools (impact is nice to have since you can loosen nuts without having to hold things like the clutch basket) but anything you can do with them you can do by hand. I would estimate the job start to finish in about 8 hours but its split since you may want to wait and see what parts you need besides the normal changeover 02 parts.
I hope to have the guide complete in about 2 or 3 weeks max.

Your brother-in-law will need a work bench and the air impact +
1 shop manual
1 flywheel puller
1 tube medium strength loctite
1 tube of yamabond or hondabond
1 top end gasket kit and maybe side cover gaskets
1 large cooler packed with refreshments
Plus the parts that are FUBR'ed or needed for the changeover too 02 specs.
