Warrior oil plug about stripped !@#$!@#$
#1
My slightly used warrior must have had the oil plug wenched on the last time the oil was changed.
I have about stripped it off and am wondering what tips there are for removing this odd looking nut.
The oil plug has a nut in the center of a circle. The entire circle is part of the nut head. The nut is slightly recessed inside the circle. Outside the circle there are two raised metal areas on either side on the crank case, whcih make it impossible to get a grip on the circle part of the nut.
HEEEEELLLLLLP!!!!!!!!
Thanks
Tim

If you can't get vice grips on it, then maybe a grinder would help. If you can get some of the material out of the way you might be able to grip it. Maybe cut a slot and try a screwdriver.
If you can get something to bite on it, apply a little bit of heat from a propane torch maybe. Don't overdo it though.
I have a 1990 that I am going to freshen up for Grandpa to ride and I know that the bolt is stripped. My 2003 is a little messed up, too. I think Yamaha wants to make extra money selling oil plugs! Crappy design.

This happend to me on my Warrior. I stood it on the back grab bar, and took a vise grips. Put the vise grips on there as tight as I could. Then I twisted it off. bikebandit.com will have new ones, so don't worry about screwing it up or damaging it. If you need anymore info, or need help with anything just let me know.

I had the same problem with my Kodiak which I bought used. I drilled a shallow hole in the outer ring or flange of the drain plug and used a punch and light hammer blows to loosen it. You may have to remove skid plate to do this.
Good Luck!

Stand it up like said before and hammer on a standard sized 12pt socket, I had to do it.. give it some good whacks,, have at it and you will get it.

This is a lot more common than I thought - I figured it was just me for the last 12 years....Vise grips usually get it done. Somehow I always seem to overtighten it even when it feels just slightly snug.
