Default YAMAHA BLASTER COLD WEATHER QUESTION

I have a 2000 model Yameha Blaster. It has just been bored this past summer with new pistons and rings. Does it hurt to warm it up, (let it idel) for 15 mins before you ride? It is between 22 and 32 degrees F. here with snow on the ground.

Does it harm them in any way to ride them when it is this cold? I do not have a cover over the filter.

You should let it warm up before riding when it's cold, don't just fire it up and take off. You need to go up in jet size too when winter riding. Don't run the same jet you do in the summer or you'll run too lean.

i wouldnt let it warm up to much.... blasters are air cooled that means they are only getting cooled if your moving.. ideling for that long will tear a blaster apart... in the summer that is i guess if its about 20 degrees it should keep it cool haha just be careful

My only concern when I had my blaster was the oil. I never took off the oil injection and was always scared that the oil was too thick from the cold.

You know I never thought about the oil being too thick. How do you know if the pump is still working? Also can I mix a little oil with the gas to be on the safe side?

Yes, i would highly suggest mixed SOME oil in with the gas, if you have not removed the big ol' set up. IMO i would just get rid of the oil pump and mix my gas so i know it will have consistant oil flow. But adding some oil in the gas (be sure to MIX it) will not hurt it and if anything, it will save your topend. Letting the blaster idle for 15 min will not over heat it even though it is air cooled. Just be prepaird to have a spar sparkplug and wrench with you on the trail becasue it will tend to foul at idle.

About the jetting... I think stock is a 220 main jet size for +1990 Blasters (stock)... I like to run a 210 year round with my set up and elevation. In the summer it is a tad to rich, and it the winter (around 1*f) it is just a tad lean. But you can sometimes compensate for that with the idle mixture screw.

Also, put the cover back on the air box. You did not rejet for that and i will garantee you your blaster is running too lean and trashing your rod, crank, and cylinder. The dense air mass and your air box cover rmoved is putting too much air in that little 200cc engine.

Yeah I would just mix some oil in the gas when I rode in the winter.
