what oil do you use?
ok, almost time for my first oil change. I was just wondering what oil you use. Also, I plan on doing my own scheduled service on it, what does the stealership do besides change the oil and filter the first time after break in? Any carb adjustments or anything? Thanks

Mobil 1 or Amsoil in every engine, transfer case, and differential I've owned since 1982. Never had a single problem running full synthetic. I like Amsoil best but since Mobil 1 is available at Walmart, I use either. I don't know anything about Castroil synthetic but I'd guess it's as good as any.
I thought my 2003 Raptor didn't like synthetic when I heated up the clutch one time (mud/ice on a steep hill). I learned from this board that Raptor clutches get spongy for a little while after you've slipped them hard.
Per my dealer reco, I changed the oil in my Raptor after 2 tanks of fuel. I varied RPMs but rode it easy for the first tank and beat the snot out of it starting with the 2nd tank of fuel. No problems at all.

2003 Raptor, full skids, full Yoshi comp, K&N no lid, DJ 146/148, 22" rear Holeshot XCTs, 3" front spacers - waiting for the UPS truck to bring my new sprockets so I can get back the low end I lost by increasing to 22" rear tires and saving for front Elkas.

As far as the service, sounds right. It is normally just check/adjust the valves, change oil, clean air filter, check/adjust cables, etc. The price is way high though. I can't imagine it being over 100 bucks for the whole deal. When I had initial service performed, it was about $90.

I have always been a Valvoline die-hard. Now that they make an oil for four-stroke ATV's, its the only 10w40 I use. Don't know what is so different about this oil, but since its for ATV's, I went out and bought a couple cases. I might be getting ripped-off for the price,( $3.95/qt.) but like I said, I'm a Valvoline die-hard.

Ernie, UBETRUN,
You guys use Mobile 1 in your Raptor with no problem? My stealership told me that you can't use synthetic oil because it is too slippery and it will make the clutch slip. Were they just trying to get me to buy their Yamahaha oil? Have either of you ever had any clutch slipping problems? I use Mobile 1 in my car and truck, and I would love to be able to use the same stuff in my Raptor. Thanks
