I just purchased a 2003 big bear 4x4 and noticed when the on-command 4wd is engaged there is a noticable gear whine from the front diff. area when going over 10mph. While in 2wd there is no whine heard. Is this gear whine normal?

 

mines an 02 and i get no whine. At first i was thinking the noise when you engage it but then you said it makes the noise as your driving. Like i said mine don't get that sound. But i would get it checked out.

 

I HAVE THE SAME YEAR AND MODEL AND I PUT IT IN THE SHOP TO CHECK IT 0UT AND THEY SAID IT WAS NORMAL.
