it is soposed to even out the air suply to both cylenders right?
y cant you run a line to your air box and just filter the thing?
will a bigger bottle help out with the power or will it wreck my motor?

I have read a fair amount on this subject lately. It seems if you have a bottle, or tube that is matched to the engine it will indeed help out. I dont think it is a huge amount, but it does help.

There was an article I read, I will try and find it for you. It explained why it is there and also that it needs to be sized to your engines needs. That is probably why most that get them dont feel a difference, because they are just buying a one size fits all bottle and not one that is fitted to the needs of the engine.

I will try and find the article. Also toomey has some good info on their site regarding the bottle.

I am not sure what you are talking about filtering, so I wont comment on that.

The way I see it, a boost bottle, crossover tube, etc just keeps the air flowing. Instead of air flowing when the reeds are open then stopping abruptly when they close, it gives the air a little more room to take up so it doesn't have to stop.
Yamaha has been using boost bottles since the early 80's (maybe even late 70's) starting on the YZ dirtbikes. The TRI-Z also had a boost bottle. My YZ490 has an aftermarket reed spacer/boost bottle. But as far as I know, yamaha is the only company to use them.
According to all the info I have read, the size doesn't matter. BY the way, I have a boost bottle on my banshee and didn't notice any difference. I keep it on there for the looks.

I would also be interested in the article Bat. My thinking may be way off base.

You do not want to take the tube off and put a filter there. You will lean out the motor. You are just letting in fresh air with out going through the carbs.

Here is one article here

There is some info on toomeys site also. I will look for the other article later.

Also, what dune devil said is right on. Dont remove the tube and put filters there. Major meltdown would occur if it would even run.
