Default Going to Mexico to ride need some INFO PLEASE

I have heard that you need to have a title to take a quad into mexico, does anyone know if this is true. My buddy financed his Banshee and doesn't have a title. I live in Nevada and we don't even register our atv's here so he has no information to prove it is his bike. Will this be a problem going in and out of Mexico??

thanks!!

I think that you need proof that the quad is yours while crossing the border. But i am not sure

I'm not sure if it'sa must or not to cross the border. You should register at RIDINGARIZONA.COM They will have an answer for sure....plus it's a cool site.

okay i took my quad to mexico this christmas vacation. my parents where born the so we went to visit my grand parents. these are the steps to take:

1. you need proof that the quad is yours
2. got to the building named Aduena (something like that) and tell them you need a permit for a CUATRIMOTO or a temporay import
3.you also need a permitfor your truck, trailer or anything with wheels
4.after your trip is over go to the same building and tell them that your you want to end the temporary importation.

****make sure that you have reciept of all the vehicles, trailers etc. or you wont be able to cross next time because you didnt end the temporary importation. trust me we got screwd like that****

ohh and if your bike or truck is financed you need a permit from the company that financed the bike and tell them that its for a temporary importation

remember no permit(s) no riding

I make 5-7 riding and racing trips to Mexico each year. Mostly either Baja or the Sonora side (Puerto Penasco). The rules are a little different as far as registering your vehicle but the other details are the same. Where are you going?

1) Car/Truck insurance - dont leave home without it ! It's technically not required by Mexico but you'll be out of luck if something happens and you dont have it. It's based on 24 hour blocks of time and goes by the Blue Book value - not what you think it's worth - dont overestimate the "real" value of your truck. They'll ask you what the value is so consult ww.kbb.com to be accurate.

2) Car Truck registration - on the Sonora side it's required if you venture beyond the 60 mile checkpoints. At that point they'll turn you around if you arent registered. Many tourist desinations (including the entire Baja penninsula) are exempt from this so check first.

3) Tourist VISA - the rule is if you are going to be in Mexico for longer than 72 hrs you need one. I normally ignore this cause they have never asked for it and really have no idea of how long youve been there. If things got weird it could be a good idea.

4) Proof of Bike ownership in the form of a Title is best. A notorized (anything with a raised seal they like) Bill of Sale will probably work. They like to clearly see the VIN # match up !

Normally when you cross into Mexico it's a toss up as far as them checking the bikes. Plan on getting stopped for inspection. I've never been stopped entering the US to check the bikes, usually just a routine question or a random inspection.

MOST IMPORTANTLY - NO guns or ammo - REPEAT, No guns or ammo. This is a big deal to them and you'll be in serious trouble (jail time) if you happen to have a couple loose ronds laying in the center console, etc....DO NOT TAKE A GUN INTO MEXICO. Drugs will put you in the samer place just as fast !

I've been visiting Mexico for years and have never had any trouble. Try to speak spanish if ya can (it's respectful), be polite and patient and follow THEIR rules. Also, if you are visiting Baja bring "steekers" - the federales and military guys have numerous gun and drug checkpoints along the highways and the quickest way through is to pass out a couple off-road stickers of some sort. Most of the locals really enjoy watching off-roading and are BIG fans - it's only in the US that we are made to feel like criminals.

Enjoy -

Dont drink the water................oh, and dont buy tacos from some guy selling them on the beach with no teeth.

Montezuma's revenge is no fun. The tacos seemed like a good idea at the time, of course after a couple of cases of corona, most anything sounds like a good idea.

remember also if they catch you with gasoline you will have to dump it out. Mexico is nothing like the US, you have NO RIGHTS, screw up and they can impound your toys and keep them. What that banshee cost you is what 1 person makes yearly in mexico. Keep low, be repectful, drink bottled water and try to use mexican pesos you will get a better deal, its not the US so they dont make change in US coins, they round up to the next dollar.
