Default Why the craze with extended Swingarms?

When i first bought my R it had a +4 Swingarm and after riding it for a while i hated it and couldnt wait to get a swingarm stock length.I could see if you had a Quad built for hill shooting or drags. But all you guys with the new 4 Strokes whats your reasoning in buying extended swingarms?I can see a highly modded 2 stroke needing one to keep the front end down.I was talking to my sales rep at Duncan Racing about this a few weeks ago and he said Extended swingarms are for people that cant ride.Thought it kinda funny. That is unless you have Quads like Da Beechman.......he has no choice(poor guys hangin on for his life lol). late, zubbeyboy

Ever ridden a Raptor? They have tons of torque. Nothing like a 2 stroke, they pop wheelies like crazy and when your least expecting it (ride one youll see what I'm talkin bout) The swingarm Yamaha supplies with the Raptor is a little short for the power it makes and of course everyone is gonna mod there bike a little so it makes it even worse. The only option to keep the front down is a swingarm.

Big Bubba has it right on. It has to do with power delivery. When you hit the throttle on a 2-stroke, the rear tires spin like crazy. When you hit the throttle on a 4-stroke, the huge torque pulls the front end up. You are correct about the 250, a +4 swingarm is probably too much. But it is almost a necessity for a 60-70hp Raptor that is used quite a bit for drag racing. Now for MX of XC racing, a +1 to +2 is the best. For TT racing, stock will be preferred.

It all has to do with power and style of riding.

I agree with Lateralus.....I dont see the point of an extended swingarm.
It totally changes your bikes cornering abilities.

I do agree with the statement that it depends on your riding style.
I only see the need for an ext swarm for drag racing.

Extending the swing arm allows more rear wheel travel. This is very helpful out in the desert - especially in the whooped out, sandy stuff. I only got a short ride on my new swing arm (before my tranny let go) but the difference was very noticable. Most of the competitive desert racers use extended swing arms for this reason.

Terrain makes the diff - on the track in might not be worth the trouble.

In the dez - I've found longer is better

Has anybody that has extended the swing-arm moved thier pegs back about an inch? It's amod I intend to make after the extended swing-arm. I am over 6 foot and have huge monkey like arms so I'm always riding like a freakin hunchback.

Extended swingarms are for guys who cant ride eh someone needs to do their homework dont they. Ill just add to the rest of the posts extended swingarms are genrally lighter than the stocker atleast mine is anyway a lighter swingarm reduces unsprung weight wich allows your suspension to react faster to the terrain.

The reason my swing arm was extended +4 was for hillclimbing, but after I put the extension on there is no way I would go back to stock even if I never climbed or draged again!

Trust me the Raptor has no problem putting the front end in your face even with the +4. I love the way it lets you corner... that is if you know how to ride (since I ride a +4 I guess I don't) LOL

Just like Big Bubba said... its a Torque thing!!!
