Default any tips???

I just picked up my 03 black-n-red blaster.

Any tips for breaking it in?

What is some first basic mods to do?

What the he!! is up with these balloon tires on the back? I need another tire that is better for trail riding and has more stable sidewalls?

I went back several pages on the Yamaha board and there was not really and solid answers, so I figured I would ask and see how many people would be kind enough to help me.

Thanks.

I like to do a few heat cycles, let it idle till it gets nice and hot, I usually have a fan blowing over it to simulate riding. I heat it up, and let it completely cool down. Usually a half hour or so cool down. And about 15 minutes of idle.

After a few of those, I do a couple of rides, getting it nice and warm, varying the throttle but not going full throttle, maybe a coupld of short bursts. Do that, and let it cool. I usually do it twice. Then let her rip.

Thats my routine and seems to work good.

first things first new tires the balloon ones sucks
then pick up a toomey pipe maby some reeds
then flip your front tires unless you do mx or big jumps
and with your new wheels get them offset so your wider in the back
get a longer swingarm if you have the money or just an extention
and then you have something that looks like mine except red
the rest is up to you suspension would be good but expensive new a-arms the list is endless
the ct 240 kit has 40 hp claimed
for trails some razrs or holeshots would work or maby some fast treckers
try searching also there's been maby topics on the blaster just not lately
if you have more questions ask away

Bat covered the breakin well. When you get new rear tires keep an eye on the weight. Try to stay as close to stocker or lighter if possible. Toomy knows how to get the hp out of it.

let it idle till it gets nice and hot, I
This is a question so don't listen to what I am saying, I am not a two stroke guy.
I thought you weren't supposed to keep it at a steady RPM during break in. Wouldn't idle be steady or because its so slow that it doesn't matter?

tires: like 14mins said watch the weight.

thw whole steady idle thing is usually with 4-strokes something about it being bad on cam breakin, that is pretty much the same break in i did with my blaster, every time i put a new top end in it and it never gave me problems for three years, just a new piston every year, new rings, every six, still held a a strong compression after three years of hell on the same bore

but pipe and jet it, throw the airbox lid in the weeds, it`s worthless, new reeds, personaly i used boysen pro series. if ur just running the woods, with no big jumps get wheel spacers, i used plus 5 inch (2.5 on each side). if you plan big jumps you want to look into a new longer axel, tires on mine i ran pure sport bandits, a heavy tire, but great in the woods, get the XC`s they are 4 ply tires with kevlar belt, had those on there for 2 years and had only one hole in them (a nail) and they have a lifetime guarantee, go to a 14 tooth front sprocket, vito`s head gasket kit,and one last very improtant thing, i can not stress NERF BARS, and MX Boots e-nuff

Thanks for the tips you guys. After a couple months of riding I will start getting some add ons, but for right now I just want to get some good back tires.

Where's the best place to get the fast treckers, holeshots?

what about the jetting with the toomey pipe? brand of reeds?

Thanks again

Do you have to adjust the gas/oil ratio after you jet it up?
