last night a little past the 1/8th mile and a lil over 70 mph she went to beating clanking and everything else. left off the gas and coasted through the rest of the quarter. made my turn at the fence gave it some gas and made it to second gear when it just locked up and slid to a hault. so now it is time for me to try and make it run like it really can. i am gonna try to get quite a bit done to the motor and just tell people it is piped, jetted, and a piston. as everyone else does on here..... i will keep up on my progress. i almost had it a year b4 it crapped out.

 

Do you have a 2001, 2002, or 2003 model?

Your very, very lucky it did not lock up at 70mph. Please tell us the model year of your quad and file a complaint with the CPSC.

 

is it an 01 or 02?

 

it is an 02. call me dumb but what is the CPSC? ya i heard it clanking so i pulled in the clutch. i didnt want to wipe out at 70.

 

This is a sad day if it is your transmission. The 02's and later are not suppose to have tranny problems. Please keep us updated on what the cause was, tranny or other. TIA

i dont THINK it is the tranny b/c i was able to put in neutral so i could get dragged back to the truck. the clatter and breaking sounded like it came from up top.

I bet you droped a valve. I did that on my 300ex and the same thing happend it started banging like LOUD, then it just locked up. When I pulled the top-end off the valve half was stuck in the top of my piston.
