Racing the Raptor
#11
I race some MX and XC races on my Raptor. I started all stock, and slowly upgraded over the last year. You will be fast enough to compete. Now you need to work on endurance (working out) and handling (wider and/or lower). A few tips and options, going from least to most expensive -
1) Get rid of the spacers. This is a must.
2) Bump the front preload up all the way, this will reduce roll in corners. Reduce rear preload and increase compression damping a few clicks.
3) Get 18" MX tires all the way around. This will increase traction and lower the quad at the same time.
4) Buy a complete new front end from Alba for under $1000. This includes +2 wider a-arms, Works triple rate shocks, and braided brake lines.
5) Go ***** out. New +2 LSR a-arms, +1 3/4 LSR swingarm, +4 Dominator alxe, Hyper carbon fiber beadlocks, ITP Holeshot MX tires, Elka triple rate SSD shocks front and rear, Galfer braided brake lines f+r, only $4600
Good luck with your race, keep us posted!

I'm gonna keep those suggestions in mind. Once I gather a few more bucks .....a shopping I will go! Man, a guy can spend a fortune on this sport.......guess the kids will have to wait for braces!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also, thanks for the best wishes and the vote of confidence. I will keep you all posted on my endevor.
Note, I knew I would get alot of great info from this site. Many thanks.

I'm still running the 2.5" spacers on the back of my Raptor. I know I'm taking a chance of breaking my axle but I'm hoping the new shocks will help. The axle is the next thing I want to replace anyway, I just have to take it a little easy on the jumps and bumps. The wider stance makes a huge differance in the turns.
