Default Does Gearing Matter On A Dyno ? Does 97mph seem high!?!

Does a persons gearing that they use on a dyno affect their HP numbers ?

You should be looking at horsepower over RPMs, not HP over speed. That way you can get a Torque reading. The speed changes with whatever gear you are in, or whatever size sprockets you are using. Torque and HP don't change. (Except minimally due to the chain friction at different gearings) I think it is better to be able to say that "my engine makes 50HP and 45 lb/ft of Torque at 7000RPMs" than to say that "when I'm in 5th gear at 80 mph my engine makes 50 HP"

That is just my opinion. But if you have read many hot rod or performance car magazines, that is the way they do it. I think it is probably for a good reason, too.

DaBeechMan, I notice you don't have you quad specs on your notes. But I did notice in your pictures you say this OUR gas 730. Now is it you don't really own anything of your own. Just asking because you talk alot. I would like to see what you own.

Raptar- It should not. The gearing will effect the length of time the run takes on the dyno.

Air- you should spend more time trying to figure out how to be faster than me.

Hey 14,
you are saying that you can beat air with a 686 but in your signature you say that there is going to be a 2001 "unleashed to take on the corporate big bore rappys!!"

Wouldn't you consider the Trinity 727 a corporate rappy? I was just trying to figure out if you are actually beating the 727's or if you are thinking that you may eventually get a 2001 built that will beat the 727's?

Not trying to start $hit just trying to sort through this.
I have a 727 on the way back from Trinity, and my cousin is getting ready to send his out to get a 686 kit, and I can't wait to see the difference in the bikes.

(and so there is no confusion that is a Craycraft 686)
