Default Polishing Side Covers

My cousin and I are trying to polish his side covers on his 400ex. I know Yamaha guys know a little bit more about polishing than Honda. The problem is we can't get the paint off, we have tried a couple of different strippers.. Nothing seems to work, is there a secret formula?? Thanks

there is a stipper I get at an airport store that removes the paint from aluminum nicely.

I just did this, the side covers are powder coated, so you will need to sand blast them. Start sanding with 120, 280, 320, 400, 600, and then 1,000 grit paper, (yes all of them) then get a bar of rouge and a die grinder with buffing pads, coat pads with rouge, polish on the case at high rpms until it gets HOT, then you will start to see a shine, Man it looks awesome on my Banshee!

I just finished both my Raptor side covers, they look great and it didn't take me a hellof a long time either. I just used paint stripper, sand paper, steel wool, and buffing cloth and it came out good.

Bubba, what kind of stripper did you use?? Yours didn't involve sandblasting?

mine took me a long time and came nice, but a few trips to the sand and they looked like crap! might think about getting them dipped. i had them redone and u can see yourself in them. not to bad on the price, $100 per side, might save u some time and heart ache.

I forget that stripper I used but I got it at Bi-Mart. No, I didn't have to sand blast at all.
