now i got another problem...yahoo!!

well, now here's the deal. sometimes, my electric start works whenever i turn the key. i dont even have to push the button. but it doesnt always run. sometimes i dont get any spark, and sometimes i do. the neutral light dont work, either. sometimes when i turn the key, it dont turn over, and the neutral light is still not on until i hit the electric start button. and it will also turn over by hitting the button no matter what gear it's in. even if it's in reverse, and i dont need to pull in the clutch. but if the kill switch is on "off" and i hit the electric start button, the neutral light comes on, and i can hear a little click under the left fender, and it stays on strong. then i put it on run and hit the electric start, and it will run. but when it's running, the electric start motor is still turning. when i play with the reverse lever, and push it back and forth a little, the neutral light comes on real dim. i think the starter motor problem is just that the gear in it is still meshing inside the motor, and it's turning the starter motor over. ive been riding through a lot of water, and i think the wires may have gotten wet and are shorting out. but i got some good news! the reverse works now. there's another plug in the side of the engine by the sprocket, and it was unplugged. so there's another easy fix. or i may just sell it for cheap cause i prolly wont be able to afford the repairs. any help would be appreciated very much.

Are there any added eletrical accessories on the quad? I put my winch on and hooked the wire that is to get hot when the ignition is on, to a source that was hot only when the key is on.
To test it I turned the key on with the motor not running, then operated the winch, then the starer turned over and the motor ran. I found another wire to splice into.

the only thing on it is a high output battery as of now. there are no new parts on it. i made the mistake of taking the starter apart and cleaning it out and all that. i put it together just like it was when i took it apart, and now all it does is turn over, without turning over the engine. and i cant even get it to start now, even by pop starting it. it's junk, i just wannna get it fixeda and get rid of that piece of junk. after all of these problems im having with this and the one i had with the banshee, im leaning toward to switching over to honda.

ok I read your post again about how the starter stays on while runnig ours did the same thing. first take of the starter. then the side caseing and take out the starter clutch ours was frozen all we had to do was heat up the bolts removee them and reinstall them and put her back togother. then we bent the crank burnt up the stator and have since not rode it.

It sounds like you have a bunch of lousy electrical connections.
I would clean all of the plug together connectors, the ones in front of the handel bars, every one connected to the motor, and all of the connections leading to the solinoid, get all the mud out, and the corrosion off. There is a grease made for electrical connections, after cleaning them all to like new, it will keap the connections clean, and prevent corrosion. If you have anny kind of a tester check the handelbar switches, it sounds like they might be your problem, and mabie a bad solinoid.
