Ernie660 lived thru this one...

Ernie660 left his home in Santa Fe texas at around 3 am to come up to Aledo to pick up some parts and drop off some parts at Craycraft. He got to my house around 8:30 am. He brought his banshee with him. If he reads this later i am sure he will fill in what he has done to it. We talked for a while and took a short ride in my truck to look at some things. Bob(raptorrrc) and I have been busy doing some dyno testing the last week or so. I had brought a 60 foot mobile home in to do some pics for the web page. I put some banners on it and backed it up to the drag strip start line. The last few days we were going to take some pics but had gotten to busy to do it and it had rained a little bit on friday. That is the back ground and this is the story-
After ernie unloaded the quad we were going to go thru the pasture and up to my parents house. As we cruised by the drag strip the temptation was to great and we lined up side by side and we took off. The strip is 660 foot with another 500 foot of shut down. My rappy won by just a little. We shut down and went to the end of the strip. I was about to take back off and go towards my parents house when ernie turned around so i did also. I caught back up in a 100 feet and slowed down. We were pacing each other in second gear headed back toward the start line. Thru the gears we went side by side. 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th. We crossed the cone at 660 feet and was headed toward the marker at 300 feet. At the 300 foot mark i shut the throtle off and got on the brakes. As i got on the breakes hard ernie looked back at me for a split second. ( he was probably doing 75mph) FEAR CAME THRU MY MIND AS HE WAS FAST APPROACHING THE TRAILER HOUSE BLOCKING THE TRACK. (THE TRAILER WAS 60 FOOT, DUMP TRUCK 26FOOT and a sheet of plywood on both sides of the strip) I was in a position to do nothing but watch. The dragstrip is 85 feet of soft dirt at the start line. At that point he looked to be doing 50 plus mph and not slowing down. Well he hit that trailer going at least 30 to 35 mph. I knew he was dead on impact. 35 mph to a stop in 12 inches. I feared the worse and to my amazment he got off and stood up. I took a quick look not knowing what to expect. I figured he would just collasp onto the ground but he did not. I got off and ran up to him. He knuckles were bleeding a little and i could see where his head hit the trailer. The banshee was wedged under the trailer up to the seat. It would not come out!!!. The quad hit the trailer so had it busted thru metal siding, 2 x 6's and more. The cabinets inside were thrown open. Ernie was not DEAD, i was amazed. The banshee was not that lucky. The gas tank folded like a accordining, the bars were crushed, the frame shoulded back, and the platic was fubared. The radiator was destroyed. Ernie did walk away!!!. After a while i removed a banner and his head hit hard enough to cause the aluminum siding to rip apart. All in all he was lucky and stunned. I was terrified. It was a happy ending considering the possibilities. He was not badly hurt but the quad was totaled. Neither one of us had helmets on. What started out as a 10mph cruise to my patents house almost resulted in a tragety. This is another example of riding unprotected. The bad part is i will not let my kid ride without a helment and yet we were. Learn from our mistakes, and we are not kids. I took 8 or 9 digital pics of the carnage. I do not know how to post them. I will have my wife email them to someone that can afterwhile. Ernie is one tough SOB. I have renamed him qusimoto. He looked like a suicide bomber on a mission for Saddam Hussien. This accident should have never happened but it did. Everyone knew the house was threre because that was were we started.

If he hit hard enough he prolly has a concussion
dont mess with those! I got one while riding, almost split a tree with my helmet. I saw lines like matrix and sh#t, like one digital line across one eye for about an hour , I didnt tell anybody though cause they would have thought I was retarded. After the ride I left my buddies telling them I was fine and didnt want "one for the road" (they should have known something was up at this point, I never turn one down!) I left and got gas a couple miles down the road and passed out for 20 minutes until the attendant woke me up.
Im sure he aint feelin to good at this point!! it takes a couple of hours sometimes

Some how quads run into things head on quite often, I hit a pumpass grass bush head on at about 40, my friend ran right into my barb wire fence, My neighbor ran right into a tree. Dosent take weed, beer, or low intelligence. Just an adrenaline rush, tunnel vision, or bad judgment of your brakes. You need to make ernie take some tests though, make sure he isint a super hero or something, anything over 70 into a stationary object is pushing the limits of human duability.
