Whenever I get a four-wheeler, should I let it just sit there and idle for a few hours just to heat it up or can i just jump on and hit the trails?

I am only replying to this because I am thinking you are new to ATV's and hope you ask this in all seriousness. You shouldnt ever just jump on a quad and take of flying. Give the bike about 5-10 minutes at idle to heat up. If the quad is air cooled like most are, then it relies on the air passing through the fins on the head, and if the bike has one, the oil cooler to cool the engine. Take it easy for the first 10 min of riding, then let her rip. Getting the engine and its oil up to operating temperature before hard riding will save you alot of headaches. Never let an air cooled motor idle without riding for more than 5-10 minutes depending on the outside temperature.
