Default Reliability of 2002 trannies?

Thinking about buying a used Raptor this summer. We've all heard about the problems with the early Raptors but how have the later ones been holding up?

I thought they were doing better but wasn't sure. I'm also thinking about a DS650 since I ride almost 100% in the dunes. The problem with a DS is that it won't fit in the back of my Tacoma. I've done a little looking on E-Bay and it seems like the 2002 Raptors are going for between $4500 and $5500.
