HotCam Stage 1 HELP PLEASE!
#1
Help me! I am in the process of doing the final installation on my tranny rebuild, cam and piston.
I put the head on, got it at TDC, got the cam gear lined up, and went to drop the cam in.
THE FREAKIN CAM WOULDN'T FIT!! The middle bearing journal seems to be not wide enough on the new cam to fit into the head. It is very close but it won't fit. I can wiggle it and get it about half way down and then it gets stuck. I was afraid to force it too much. It looked like the black protective coating was getting scraped off a little so I wanted to stop there and see what you thought. If I pushed it down any more, it would just get locked up and not turn at all.
Is this normal? Do I just need to go postal on it and force it down? It seems if I do this, it will not even spin and that ain't good. Is the cam out of spec? The stock cam fit in just fine.
Please help me!

I would like to be able to give you some good advice but ...
I learned a long time ago never to force anything. BUT I think that it will probably go with a little help, IF your sure its the right cam. Try measuring the stock cam compared to the new cam where it fits in the journal. This way you might know a little more, or see for sure where, or what, is hitting.

use your biggest hammer!
NO wait! Don't do that
Leave the work area for fifteen minutes...relax...all that time don't rush now
go back and it will slip right in
is the piston facing the right way? not that it has anything to do with your problem.

Thanks for the help guys.
I got it fixed with Craycraft's help. Turns out that I guess the mfg tolerances on that particular cam were out of spec. I got a new one and its all good.
It's amazing but I always get the one product that isn't quite right when I buy something. I had to take my DVD player back to Best Buy and exchange it 5 times before I got one that finally worked right!
Oh well, I'm used to it and everything's good now.
On another note, if you ever have a chance to buy anything from/ work with Craycraft, DO IT!!! They have got the best customer service I have ever dealt with. Two thumbs up to the crew from Aledo!

Jay,
Keep defending them. They are a good company with great dealers - like Craycraft.
I would advise all who purchase Hot Cams to go thru Bob and the Craycraft crew.
A good mark of a company is not only if they do the right thing themselves but if their reps do the same thing.
I have no doubt that Hot Cams stands behind their products and wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again.
