I have had my Grizz spedo read 67 and that was plenty fast for me. For me speed is not the issue, I like to be in the woods and on ultra-steep grades. I have smoked many an atv in Virginia tall brush and thick woods, only time when I ever have gotten stuck is when I slid in a mud hole at 40 mph and into into 6 feet of water. Seems to be a good quad for the price I paid.

The rev limiter gets mine at 68 on the speedo. It will tick over to 69 on a good downhill, but only for a split second. I can get 68 on the speedo with a slight to average downgrade.

I need to GPS it again at that speed and see what its really doing. I'd say 63 probably.

When I first got my grizzly, the most I could ever get out of it was about 63MPH.
Since then, I've put in a 175 Mikuni Main (stock is 152.5), HMF Slip On pipe, and removed my airbox lid.
With my girlfriend on the back, and on tar, with girlfriend on back (not real light...) we hit 69, but could NOT do 70.
Maybe without her on the back I could, but not much more. I've read and heard there is a timing retard that kicks in on or around 69, but I haven't been able to verify that.

Regarding beating a sportsman 700 or a Kawie 650....it'll take both on the top.
Stock Kawie will take the Grizz off the line, but if you race long enough, the Grizz will reel the Kawie in.
The Sportsman just weighs too much.....

Modified Prairie is FAST.......
Modified Grizzly is FAST too....but without a different CDI, I don't think you could get more than 71 or so.

I have raced both the 700 and the 650. I got the 700 right off the line and he never caught up. The 650 got me off the line and I never really got around him but i did catch him. My grizzly is a 2003 and the fastest I have had it is 67 it only has about 70 miles on it.

mid 60's here too, on pavement. GPS showed the speedo to be about 2-3mph fast. No biggie.. still much faster then any other bike I have ever owned

I've had my Grizzly up to 69 also on the hard road, cause WV allows that kind of thing. Don't get caught w/o your helmet :-) !
If you wanna soup it up a little. There is a heavy duty cluth kit available from Part Unlimited® for about $203.00. The Maintenance Manager at the dealer said it will really launch you on take off. Rev limiter kicks in at 20 MPH with Diff lock and reverse. Doesnt matter what the RPM is when the Speed sensor hits 20 MPH it breaks down. The 2004's Have an overide that will by pass that for reverse and Diff lock. I know from the dead sled pulls at the fair last night. As for the Grizzly takeing the Prarie... well my neighbor has one. We ride every Sunday... he can pull his front end off the ground at 30 MPH, Plenty of take off.. gotta love that V-Twin. The Grizzly's should have been. As for the 69 MPH limit.. I don't think the belt will stretch any furthur. All the Yamaha's 400 Kodiaks and up have ONE gear. Your speed and power are based on a centrifical clutch system much like that of a 10 speed. But only the Drive pully changes diameter. Once the weights have bottomed out on the second half of the pully.. that's all she'll go. But who needs a 4x4 that goes any faster than 70 ?
As for it's limits from my experience. ATV DEAD SLEED PULL 1500 lbs in loose dirt and a tore up track 5 feet :-( . That big *** 700 Polaris with the wide rear tires got it. Oh another guy was there with a Grizzly. He was about 350lbs.. he made it 9.5 feet .5 from a full pull. He was tied with the polaris .. they had a pull off and the Polaris still won by 1.5 feet. For the mud bogs. About 2 feet of sloppy mud some places 3. The distance to run was 50 feet .. I made it in 4 high at 11.4 seconds. I got 4th place. Not sure who the winner was. For anyone that has a 2003. There is a service bullitin out fixing the Vapor lock problem when you hit water while the bike is hot. 61.00 for the vented side panels and 7.86 for the thermal wrap that goes around the fuel system. Anyone loose thir fuel selector valve because the screw vibrated out ? That's covered under warranty. The manufacture forgot to locktite some of them. Well I've added my two cents.

My friend and I put 250 trail miles on Grizz's over the weekend in northern minnesota (sooline trail end to end). We hit 70 on the dreamo a serveral times. Even hit 100! km that is. Hold the left two buttons down, when you turn the key on, display goes from km to miles, or vice-versa. I can not say enough about the ride of these new Grizz's! I will never go to a straight axle again.

I'm ride'n an 02 grizzly and have rode with both prairie 650 and sportsman 700. before mods this is how i've seen it. Out of the hole , the 650 will eat both , 660 in sec, 700 still on the couch, 100 yards, grizzly is right on the prairie, 700 still on the couch, 300 yards grizzly has eaten the prairie and 700 is up with the 660 ater about 60or so mph the 700 walks away from them all. But how often are you go'n that fast in the bush ? And who wants a straight axle, or an extra 150 lbs of gas eaten metal.
