At work i drive a 7.3 powerstroke, F550 and in a box truck form

UNLOADED it gets 15 mpg..i'm sure a truck would do a lot better.

FWIW, the Cummins HO is available with an auto...so whoever posted that it wasn't, needs to check their facts.
Also, the NEW Cummins is quieter than any of them...PERIOD, atleast from the outside. Mine will be getting a little noisier with a 4" exhaust and Edge EZ.
Oh, the 6.0 is having a ton of problems. Check out thedieselstop.com and all they're talking about is failing injectors. One guy's gone through 2 trannys in 700 miles...what a POS that torque shift transmission must be.

The main difference in the PS and Cummins is that the Cummins is rated as a medium heavy duty diesel engine and the PS is a light heavy duty diesel engine. The Cummins has 7 main bearings 1 between each connecting rod the PS 5 one between each pair on connecting rods. The size of these connecting rods is unbelievable as well, I'll see if I can find the pic. Besides more than likely your Powerstroke was probably delivered to the dealer by a Cummins powered truck maybe even a Ford or Sterling. Why don't the use the PS to run the bigger trucks? ;-)
To most people they are going to get what ever brand they prefer, and most will be very happy with either. I have a 94 2500 4x4 Dodge with the Cummins and an auto it has 216,000 miles on it and gets an honest 21mpg consistently. The truck could be a little better but all in all it's pretty good. My father in-law has a K3500 4x4 crew cab dually with the Dmax and Allison. I love the tranny but would rather have a Cummins. He has had a few problems with the truck but none out of the engine or tranny.

Mudcat- Connecting Rod pic Makes the Duramax and Power Stroke look weak.

I get 9-11 pulling 9,000 lbs in the mtns...about 15 on flats. 17-19 unloaded, and that's w/ 4.10 gears.

Mudcat has good points, but I would bet it was a Cat engined truck that delivered it!
Dodge only will have Cummins engines in their truck until the 2006 model year, you probably will see Mercedes enging in there.
Dodge=Cummins, Ford = International Harvester, GM = Isuzu
I would like to see Chevy go with Cummins (or Cat, even better), just to put more American in the truck.
