I just did a top end on my 99 YZ80. My friend helped me with it and he held the ring tight so I could get the cylinder over. Try and have a friend (one that knows a thing or two about quads) put the cylinder over the piston while you compress the rings.

If you are worried about your rings are to large remove the ring from the piston and push it into the cylinder and measure the ring end gap, I highly doubt that is your problem, you probably need a second set of hands if your not used to installing or havent installed a cylander before.

hit the parts store and buy a couple 'krinkle ' type ring compressors..theyre not too expensive anymore.
then make sure your rings are centered on the pins in the piston, compress em, but not too tight, and slide the barrels down over the pistons. if you tap the jug down with a wood hammer handle or sumthin else soft, it should push the compressor down as the barrel slides on the piston. a little oil certainly couldnt hurt. then when the rings are inside the bore, you release the compressor and pull it out of the way. it's really easy with the right tools.
