So, I picked up this 2008 Hi-Bird 250cc atv that needs work. I have replaced enough parts to the point that I tried to fire it up today. Everything seemed to work fine to the point that the starter just "whirred". I removed the cover between the starter and the crank to discover that there was nothing inside. I can see the teeth from the starter and I can see teeth on a sprocket to the crank, but there is nothing in between. What is missing and what do I need?

 

not too sure if these require a starter chain.

 

No way a chain runs in there.. seems to be missing a gear.

 

i wasn't for sure, i used to have a hi-bird, but i never tore into it cause it never had starter issues, now i wished i had torn into it just so i could be sure.
