sorry for the huge pictures...didnt realize they would be that big. anyhow, the quad looks exactly like this one, except for the name on the seat and engine side cover.

the silver part seems to be mounted lower on the baja and the black part is up under handlebars. this one is mounted a little different, though it may have just been changed by the previous owner.

it runs pretty good, bogs a bit at say 1/4 throttle, but i havent cleaned the carb yet or done reallly anything but put a battery in and fresh gas. still chilly out, waiting for it to warm up a bit.

That is your emission control circuit a lot of Chinese scooters and ATVs have, its nothing for your performance, they use it to control the emissions out of exhaust pipes by pressures in the exhaust system. It basically sucks fresh air in and uses a vacuum to operate the valve and sends air to the exhaust.
Your first picture would be the air in and the second pic shows the vacuum (small bent hose), and the hose going down(still 2nd pic) is going to your exhaust system somewhere.
These systems can give people issues like rattling noises or exhaust leaks (back flowing) but will not cause running issues with the engine (ie. carb issues)

Someone probably changed the hose. Factory hose probably had a elbow in it. go to your local auto parts store and get a elbow and reroute it.

Thanks for the input guys. There is a port on the black plastic part that doest have a hose but looks like it should. Gonna pull the plastics back off and redo the wiring as it has been butchered pretty bad. I'll look to see where it is supposed to go then. I figured the hose was not correCT because from pics I see it is supposed to route back towards the engine. I'll take the hose with me and find one that fits. Gotta Do a complete clean on it also, buy it's been sunny and the kids want to ride! So rainy day project I guess!

I don't believe it should have a hose, it sucks air in. Read this link and it explains these systems better for you...
GY6 Pulse Air Injection...two examples. |

Why not remove it? Looks like a vacuum operated valve. Cap the vaccum line and large hose. Emissions stuff just robs power anyways. I would try and see how it runs.
