Default 2001 Sportsman 90 no spark

I know, I know. Another question about no spark on a 90. I have read a ton of forums about this (most likely stator) but I wan't to give it a good due diligence.

So I had this problem when I first bought a few weeks ago. I read many forums etc and reconnected wires etc, replaced plug, and metered voltages. I could not figure it out, then all of the sudden it sparked! And has been running great ever since. Yesterday my son went to ride and started it up and after only a few seconds it died. Dead. No choking out....just dead. I pulled the plug with wire attached and grounded to frame and NO SPARK.

I bypassed the tether (cut the wires and connected together) and still nothing. Also pulled the gray and black wires out of CDI (to bypass kill mechanisms) and still nothing.

I just want to make sure I cover the bases before I pull the stator.

Thanks!

Some machines you can clean the pickup coil and flywheel and regain spark as the open cooling fan cover just pulls in dirt and trash. If this doesn't help pull the cdi wire from the coil to check the coil resistance. Primary(tab to ground) .2-.3 ohms resistance. Secondary(wire with plug cap) 8k ohms - 9.3k ohms. Secondary (wire with cap off),3000-4200 ohms.
Stator resistance checks: Black to White/Red 450 ohms,Black to Black/Red 800 ohms, Black to Yellow/Red 0.5 ohms, Black to White 0.6 ohms,Black to ground should show zero. This should help you narrow it down.

Default Thanks OPT.

I was hoping you would reply as I have read a lot of your old posts. So I checked the stator wires and here are the numbers.

B-WR (450) I got 13 and it slowly climbed to about 19 and topped out

B-BR (800) I got 830

B-RY (0.5) I got 0.9

B-W (0.6) I got 1.5

B-G (0) I got 0.5

So I guess I need to change the stator. I was looking at the center nut that looks like is holding it on. Is is reverse threaded or standard? Also, how should I lock the flywheel so that it doesn't turn when trying to remove the center nut?

Thanks so much for your help!

Standard threads on the flywheel nut. No need to lock down a flywheel if you have a 3/8" or 1/2" air impact gun. Then all you have to do is hold the flywheel with your hand and zap the nut off. Air tools take the work out projects like this. You will need the flywheel puller. Again air tools make short work of pulling flywheels. http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/322174071178?lpid=82&chn=ps&ul_noapp=true
