Spark Plug Tech

What is the difference between a NGK CR7E and
a NGK CR8E? What is the difference between a resistor type a a non-risistor type? What does a "hot" plug do to performance?
Has anyone ever put a Split Fire spark plug on their quad? Was there any difference? Did it damage any thing?

With NGK plugs the lower the number the hotter the plug. Resistor plugs have a resistor core to supress RF. Unless major engine changes have been performed it is usually best to stick with the plug specified by the manufacturer. Using too hot of a plug may result in overheating and melting a hole in the piston-too cold of a plug may cause plug fouling. Using a non-resistor plug on an ignition designed for a resistor plug may damage the ignition.

As far as the Split fire spark plug goes, a local cycle shop was dyno testing a trx 250R for a local mx racer had everything just right. He had a split fire sparkplug and put it in and LOST 3hp. when he asked the split fire sales rep that sold them to him the rep just smiled at him and said "we sell alot of them."
