I agree. A 50" Wolverine Trail with the 708cc engine would do just fine. A 60" wide 1000cc cvt Wolverine R Spec would be nice too. Saying the YXZ is in full production isn't really news. The YXZ is a great machine, don't get me wrong. But its as wide as a small car, it will only fit on trails wide enough for full size vehicles.

Nope, I am holding out for a fire breather, a baby yxz. I'll even take a manual clutch. The 50" segment is mostly sportier machines, and I don't feel the 708 will fit that bill in current form. Or maybe it will, but it won't be as satisfying as when I punch up the wildcat. They are rumored to be working with Cat on a new side by side soooooo.....

I think Yamaha is hesitant to build a 50" side by side. I'm sure they are still paying lawsuits over rollover accidents with idiot Rhino owners. The 50" machines are nice for tight trails but they are much easier to flip than the wider machines. A few morons will try to drive them like they're race cars(with no helmet most likely) and get hurt and then try to sue Yamaha. Since so far they have only put the 708cc engine in the full size Wolverine, I don't see more power going to a smaller model if it ever comes. I can see maybe a 60" wide YXZ with a slightly detuned version of this 1000cc triple, similar in power to the other 60" 1000cc models offered by Polaris and Can Am. I have also heard Arctic Cat is coming up with a more powerful utv. Its a bit ironic since they were the first to come up with both a 1000cc utv and atv and now many others have passed them and they're behind in the ultimate power department once again.

Rumor has it the next Yamaha sxs will be for the east coasters, meaning 50". I don't think they will back away from performance like Honda has. The 50" class already has 60 to 70hp machines. I have no reason to doubt a new 50" would not be competitive. The 708 is good for the intended purpose of the Wolverine, but it isn't in the same league power wise as what has been available for 4 years now at 50".

I hope you are right. Yamaha has been hesitant to put any high hp engines in any utvs up until the YXZ came out. Perhaps a 50" with a 850cc twin putting out say 70 hp would sound great. I can still see a 708cc single in the 50" machine as the base model to compete with the RZR 570. If they price it competitively, it would be a great seller. Give this fictional engine that I just came up with a bit more power and put it in the 60" wide Wolverine as well. Polaris does this with a lot of their engines. They tune them to make more or less hp depending on the application. Bump that 850cc twin to 90-100hp and then it would be great for a 60" cvt Wolverine. Don't forget the Grizzly either, a Grizzly 850 would be nice too.
