codeman,

I seriously doubt you have a problem. I am guessing that you are using the Polaris blue oil, not the synthetic gold. The synthetic gold smokes very little at idle, and not that bad under full throttle. 2-strokes by nature will smoke, and it is normal for oil to get on the plug, as well as it to load up and die while idling for more than 20 seconds or so. I have heard of people that do nothing more than putt around having their oil pumps set to the leanest ratio to prevent plug fouling, but this wouldn't allow running the engine hard without risking engine damage. Hope this helps.

codeman,

I have a new 2001 400 2x4 I got this Christmas. It had the same things act up like yours. When I would start it it would smoke a lot, it would idle for a few minutes real good and then die like some one turn it off. It would then start up easy enough, but it would die in a few minutes later for no reason again.

When I removed the oil injection and started pre-mixing Amsoil 100:1 Premix (mixed to 80:1), this problems vanished. I removed the oil injection because I added a 39PWK carb and HPD Trail pipe.

It runs extremely smooth and strong. It feels like fuel injection and pulls like a frieght train.

I highly recommend removing the oil injection and using Amsoil. I have used it for many years and that is all that Darrell and Mike at HPD recommend.

It is real easy, just open a bottle of Amsoil, pour it competely into the can, fill up the can of gas. That is it.

Chunky
