can the universal joint on 03 suzuki front shaft be removed while front diff is in tack?

If it is an Eiger, yes. I have always split the prop shaft, the three bolts, you can't seem to get the spiders out if you don't.

thanks merryman. I did split the shaft. made the job much easier.
