Default 88 lt230 pull start question

Hi guys i have a question about a quadrunner i just bought. It's an 88 lt230 the battery was dead when i looked at it, but we tried to jump it with a car battery. The bike would turn over but would not start. The battery in the bike is totaly shot, bought a new one and it's charging now . Here is the strange part we tried to use the pull rope starter and the engine would turn over just fine a couple times, then we tried the starter button again. After that we tried the pull starter and even with the decomperssion lever thrown and the spark plug removed. When we pulled the rope you would hear a whining sound comming from the bike and it was hard to pull. Felt like we were fighting the starter. Has anyone experienced this before? Thanks

Yeah i think your right on the bearing. I put the new battery in and cleaned the carb, and got it to fire up. Motor sounds good when running so i am sure my top end is just fine. And now the original problem is hit or miss with the pull cord. So looks like once i get the bike running good i will be taking the flywheel off to check the one way bearing. Thanks for the help.

Yes it sounds like something is sticking in that starter clutch, you don't know what you will find until you open it up.I had one that it Rust in that one way clutch.
Good Luck.
