Description:
I am 36 years old and live in Salmon Arm British Columbia, Canada. I ride mostly in the Rocky mountains around home. So it is usually lots of hill climbing and trail ridding. I have owned my DS for 5 years now and would never look back. Before the DS I owned a 1985 Honda 250R ATC. I thought that I would own that bike forever. I still believe it was one of the fastest production bikes ever built. It would out run my DS in stock form with ease. I know that because I tryed it. This was before I discovered the aftermarket and the internet. I have learned a great amount about the DS on the internet. All the tried and true hop up methods, repairs ect. Most of the credit should go the the ATV Connection Forums for having a great message board that allows us to communicate with each other. Many thanks ATV Connection.Through the internet and Dirt Wheels I have discovered and developed a love for the dunes as well. Made my first trip about 3 years ago and now make 2 trips a year. We usually head to St. Anthoneys which is about a 12 hour drive for us from Calgary. Any body that has never ridden in sand has to try it - it is really amazing. Now that I live in Salmon Arm, BC it is now about an 18 hour drive the St. A's but still worth it.For the first time I am planning a trip to Glamis this Janurary (2004), a 28 hour drive for 4-stroke wars. - The drive was hell I have to say. The ridding was all right, but nothing to call home about. I won't return anytime soon. Did meet a lot of great people and a lot of other people from this forumn. I am also planning to hit the Oregon dunes the of summer (2006). We will be camping at Discovery point and I would love to meet and ride with a few fellow ridders from this page for a ride and a tall cool one after the ride.Since owning my DS I have added a full Big Gun Exhaust System, Ron Wood Ignition Box, K&N Carb Mount Air Filter, 22" rear and 23" front GBC Shredder Tires, Alba steering stabilizer, after market Heel Gaurd, Renthel Handle bars with a riser block, Alba carbon fiber rad scopes, battery cover, and front sprocket cover, Prm skid plate, belly Skid and front bumper, Armadillo 6-pack rear rack, Armadillo upper and lower a-arms with guards. I have also now updated my front tires to the new Maxxis I-Razors. I also run a set of Maxxis 4-Snow in the winter. These tires are amazing, If you ride the snow - You need these tires. The best mod I made came with the Mr. HP Lectron 46hv Carb. This carb is simly amazing. I will tell anybody to do this carb mod and the best service you will ever recieve is from Eric (AKA MR HP).UPDATE: I like most DS owners ran into transmission troubles in the fall of 2005. After a ton of reseach and not finding anybody in the area that wanted to do the job, I decided to tackle it myself. At the same time I installed a 730 kit with hr4 cams/shim under bucket conversion. I had the boys at HPR inspect the gears and backcut them. I was superized the job was not that hard, again thanks to alot of people from ATV connection especially Eaglecollector that posted the how to instructions.Well to say the least I am extreamly pleased with the results. The tranny shifts like butter (no more missed shifts) and the 730 pull like a freight train. I had a chance to spin the new motor on the dyno wile in St. A's last year at Rexburge Motorsports. I pulled 52 horse at the rear wheels at 5000 feet.SPRING 2007:In the past few months I decided it was time to take the next step and pulled the motor once again to send the head back to HPR for porting and bigger valves. i am just in the process of putting it back together. I will be in St. A's again in a few weeks and plan to hit the dyno again, i will be sure to post the results. I know run with Skat-Trac Extreams (22-11x10 * 9 Paddle) after cheaping out the first time on paddles. Again I thank my fellow reader for ATV Connection for advice on the tires. Keep well and ride safe !!!
