Ask The Editors: Polaris Engine Code

The code has the problem narrowed down to a specific area.
This actually makes sense as 520 194-2 is usually related to steering/ throttle positioning error. The most common explanation here is a stuck throttle. You may be thinking that’s not possible because you can give the machine gas but remember how sensors work. They can get touchy even when things appear to be working okay.
The thumb throttle housing contains a sensor that monitors the cable and throttle position. We’d start by applying lubricant to the throttle assembly and contact cleaner to the contact points. With a bit of luck, that will solve your problem. If it doesn’t, keep investigating the throttle components – is the cable properly adjusted? Follow it with your fingers to make sure it isn’t kinked or bound anywhere. Make sure there is no debris like a stick jammed along the cable run.
Examine the throttle body connectors, paying special attention to the Idle Air Control (IAC) connector. make sure it’s good and snug and free of damage. Contact cleaner is a good idea here as well.
The following resource should help greatly in isolating exactly what’s going on with your machine: Polaris Diagnostic Display Code Definitions.

You’ll notice that 520194 places the trouble specifically within “throttle safety signal” category so we’re almost positive your troubles are there. We’ve seen this code get thrown over something as simple as a cracked throttle cable housing or some cable slack over time. Sometimes a new throttle cable is enough to fix the problem. At most, replacing the throttle position sensor may be in order. Take your time investigating here but hopefully this information provides you with the correct place to start.
