We’re hoping this one gets the ball rolling. Again.

We’ll come right out wit hit – manual clutch, full sport ATVs are among your ATV Connection’s favorite machines ever made. You can imagine our disappointment, then, when the 450cc premiere race class nearly evaporated entirely, leaving only Yamaha to hold down the fort (after a peak of having 12 different 450s to choose from in the mid 2000s).

Yamaha had also shown the world what was possible with a modern smaller-bore, manual clutch ripper in the now defunct Raptor 250. Despite being one of the top selling sport ATVs of 2008, it was discontinued in 2013 as the industry continued to move further away from the stock sport segment.

It was looking like the stuff of memories until this announcement came across our desks: Texas’ Denago Powersports is about to release the Daytona 250 – a fuel injected, oil cooled, manual clutch 250 ready to rip.

While full specs are slow in coming (the company’s official site is still under construction), we do know it will mate a fuel injected 249cc 4-stroke engine with a fully manual 4-speed transmission (with reverse).

Other odds and ends look like hydraulic disc brakes all around, fully adjustable suspension, stainless exhaust and electric start.

If these renders are accurate, it looks like chain final drive and perhaps even OEM handguards, factory nerf bars and a lanyard kill switch to look forward to. In case you’re not familiar, these are all of the accessories required to race upon most tracks here in the US. Having an OEM sport quad available is a great thing as far as we’re concerned. Having one race-ready on the showroom floor is even better!

The MSRP is a reasonable $2,499 (keep in mind the Raptor 250 was $4,599 back in 2013) and is recommended for riders age 14 and up. We imagine this one will prove quite popular and will hopefully contribute to the rejuvenation of the 250cc race class.

More information will be available on Denago’s official site here.
