Amphibious Quadski Plant to Create Jobs in Detroit
We know, we know, the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Detroit is auto- manufacturers. We would also accept “Motown Records” for those of you old enough to remember such things. However, Gibbs Sports is hoping to add ATV manufacturing to the list.

The company’s first foray into the ATV business, the amphibious $40,000 Quadski has officially gone into production within a 54,000 square-foot factory smack dab in the Motor City. Well, smack dab may be pushing it a bit as the actual address is listed as Auburn Hills, Michigan- the point remains that new jobs in a recovering domestic economy is never a bad thing.
The plant is expected to employ over 200 individuals when operating at full capacity later next year. Gibbs Sports Amphibians Chairman Neil Jenkins said the company plans to build approximately 1,000 Quadskis through October of next year.
While the Quadski has been making quite a name for itself throughout the media, the $40,000 price tag may keep it out of many garages but there is hope even there. Jenkins also pointed out that GIBBS has implemented a flexible manufacturing system at its new plant that will support the production of a range of high-speed-sports amphibious products in addition to the Quadski. We’re certainly hoping some lower cost alternatives begin manifesting down the road.
