Ask The Editors: Hey ROXOR - No Road, No Deal
Off-road only? Maybe not.

Dear ATVC: I was considering getting a Mahindra ROXOR over a Polaris or Can-Am SxS because I figured it could be used for some street use too only to find out, it’s every bit as illegal as the rest of them. Why? Can it be made street legal?

According to our research, the ROXOR is road legal in many countries around the globe but not so in the United States due to its inability to pass the rigorous safety and emissions standards mandated by the Federal government in order to achieve road use certification.

We’re not experts on the subject but have noticed that a lot of lesser known brands get around this with those strange little boxy cabs sometimes with 3-wheels) by labeling them an enclosed motorcycle rather than an automobile. Whether or not this was something Mahindra considered, we can’t say for sure.

As for your own dilemma, believe it or not, not all states view the subject equally. Depending on which state you call home, you may actually be able to take one on the streets legally.

Check out the following resource. It goes through each of the big 5-0 and lets you know which states allow such things and what you would need paperwork-wise to smile and wave as you pass the patrolman in your ROXOR.
