Kazuma Mammoth 800 UTV Transmission Trouble
The big Mammoth 800 doesn’t want to move.

Dear ATVC: North Central Ohio here. In a town of 45,000 people I cannot find anybody that will work on my Kazuma Mammoth 800 UTV.. So I guess I’ll have to hack it myself. Fairly handy if I know where to start.
I can shift the transmission easily the lights change on the dash. You can feel it drop into gear with a small lurch forward or in reverse. However when you press on the gas… nothing. In the past I have been able to push it or tow it a small distance and it would work. I have also just walked away for 2 or 3 hours and came back and it worked fine. Once it starts to work, it works the rest of the day. It’s when I come back before 5 days later that the problem arises if it’s going to.
I have removed the CVT cover and the CVT belt IS moving.
Any ideas?

You’re definitely starting in the right area but while the belt isn’t damaged and is moving, the problem sounds to us an awful lot like am issue with the clutches. If the clutch mechanism isn’t completely disengaged, you can rev the gas till the proverbial cows come home and go nowhere.

Some places to begin – Have you noticed whether or not it makes a difference if you are in 2×4, 4×4 and high or low range?

Remove the belt and confirm that the primary clutch moves in and out when RPMs increase.

Another possibility is the shifter linkage where it mates with the transmission requiring adjustment. The unit runs an 81″ gear shift cable to actuate the transmission that is prone to stretching over time.

While this is unlikely the culprit for your particular issue, the Mammoth 800 was fairly notorious for failing to adequately lubricate the shaft itself. Here is a video to solve that particular dilemma:

In short, while we wish to be more specific, you are going to have to continue investigating the transmission and clutch to determine exactly where the trouble lies. It sounds like you have the technical ability to do so. An entire transmission can be purchased new for around $600 but, especially given that the problem isn’t consistent, we suspect your problem is going to one of simple adjustment.
