Making the Can-Am Maverick R

From a sketch to a real life monster, Can-Am takes us behind the scenes.

Have you ever wondered how a company turns an idea into a machine you can purchase from your local dealer?

In the case of the Maverick R, they aren’t just sketching up some new plastics and calling it a day, either. By pairing a 999cc engine with a turbo charger, they’ve managed to produce a bone stock machine outputting 240 horsepower! That’s a full 15 ponies over the naturally aspirated 1,997cc RZR Pro R at half the displacement.

We’ve heard the reader requests – after testing the potent Polaris RZR Pro R here, we are as curious as you are as to how Can-Am’s powerhouse compares.

We’re lining up some time with a Maverick R as we speak so that before the snow flies, we’ll be able to bring you the scoop definitively.

In the mean time, we’ve got a video of the design and development process of Can-Am’s flagship side by side. And if that doesn’t intrigue enough, Can-Am includes a peek at some of the other concepts they’re working on, some of which look like equipment straight out of a sci-fi movie. If you know anything about Can-Am, though, these aren’t simply flights of fancy. They build these things, as witnessed in the Maverick R!
