Ask the Editors: The Mystery Headlight Guard
Help me figure out where this came from.
Dear ATVC: I’m not an avid ATC rider (too old now) but I did pick up a 85 200x about 18 years ago to play around with here and there. Fast forward to now and, being in the “if I’m not using it, it’s time to sell” mode, I’ve been going through things. The rack I’m not too sure about. Did it come off of a 200x, was it an accessory for it, is it from another model? Again, much appreciate any help.
What it looks like to us is one of the OEM Hondaline accessories that was rigged up to serve as a headlight guard. The likely reason you’re having trouble finding the exact match is that we suspect it was originally not a headlight guard at all, rather a front rack for the 1984-85 Honda 200S or a similar model.
This was the stock rack from the Honda 250SX.
Our guess is it was one of these that served as the starting point for what would become the headlight cage in your photo.
